Documents for repatriation to Montenegro
On arrival in Montenegro we hand over to the family or the local funeral service and coordinate the burial with the cemetery. Montenegro is outside the EU, so the hearse crosses a customs border; we prepare the paperwork in advance.
For an international transport the following documents are usually needed. We obtain them on behalf of the family:
- Civil death certificate, ideally the international multilingual extract
- Medical certificate confirming the cause of death is not infectious
- Corpse passport (laissez-passer) for international transport
- Certificate of embalming or preservation, where required
- Certificate confirming the zinc-lined coffin has been sealed
- Copy of the passport or ID card of the deceased
When the deceased is transported from Montenegro abroad: In Montenegro a doctor confirms the death, the civil registry records it and issues the death certificate, and the competent authorities issue the permit for transport of the deceased abroad.
