Repatriation from Switzerland to Bosnia and Herzegovina, handled from start to finish
Losing someone far from home is hard enough without having to deal with foreign authorities and paperwork in another language. We collect the deceased anywhere in Switzerland, including Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Bern, Lausanne, and bring them with dignity to any town or city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Zenica, Mostar.
Over this distance there are two options. By hearse via Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, which keeps the deceased in one vehicle from start to finish, or by air for the fastest arrival, with hearse transfers to and from the airports (Zurich (ZRH) or Geneva (GVA) and Sarajevo (SJJ), Tuzla (TZL) or Banja Luka (BNX)).
The family does not need to travel to arrange anything. We work directly with the hospital, the registry office, the consulate where needed, and the cemetery or funeral home in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Documents for funeral transport from Switzerland to Bosnia and Herzegovina
In Switzerland the death is reported to the civil registry office (Zivilstandsamt / état civil), which records it and issues the death certificate. The corpse passport (Leichenpass / laissez-passer mortuaire) for transport abroad is issued by the cantonal authorities.
For international transport the following documents are usually required. We obtain them on behalf of the family:
- Civil death certificate, ideally the international multilingual extract
- Medical certificate confirming the cause of death is not infectious
- Corpse passport (laissez-passer) for international transport
- Certificate of embalming or preservation, where required
- Certificate confirming the zinc-lined coffin has been sealed
- Copy of the passport or ID card of the deceased
On arrival in Bosnia and Herzegovina we hand over to the family, the local funeral service or the religious community, and coordinate the burial date with the cemetery. Bosnia and Herzegovina is outside the EU, so the hearse crosses a customs border on the way in and out; we prepare the customs paperwork in advance.
This route crosses a customs border. We prepare the customs declaration and the accompanying papers in advance, so the hearse is not held up at the border.
