Repatriation from Austria to United Kingdom, handled from start to finish
Losing someone far from home is hard enough without having to deal with foreign authorities and paperwork in another language. We collect the deceased anywhere in Austria, including Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and bring them with dignity to any town or city in the United Kingdom, such as London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool.
For this distance we usually recommend air transport from Vienna (VIE) to London Heathrow (LHR) or Manchester (MAN), with hearse transfers at both ends. Transport by road via Germany, Belgium and Calais with a Channel crossing is also possible on request.
The family does not need to travel to arrange anything. We work directly with the hospital, the registry office, the consulate where needed, and the cemetery or funeral home in the United Kingdom.

Documents for funeral transport from Austria to United Kingdom
In Austria the death is confirmed by the official post-mortem examination (Totenbeschau), the registry office (Standesamt) issues the death certificate (Sterbeurkunde), and the district authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft) or city magistrate issues the corpse passport (Leichenpass).
For international transport the following documents are usually required. We obtain them on behalf of the family:
- Civil death certificate, ideally the international multilingual extract
- Medical certificate confirming the cause of death is not infectious
- Corpse passport (laissez-passer) for international transport
- Certificate of embalming or preservation, where required
- Certificate confirming the zinc-lined coffin has been sealed
- Copy of the passport or ID card of the deceased
The United Kingdom is outside the EU customs union, so remains arriving from the continent cross a customs border. We complete the paperwork and coordinate with the receiving funeral director, registrar and, where required, the coroner.
This route crosses a customs border. We prepare the customs declaration and the accompanying papers in advance, so the hearse is not held up at the border.
